Run a trial balance as-of a date (Indian FY context) and confirm total debits equal total credits before statements or FY close.

What this section is
Trial balance (TB) lists each GL account’s debit or credit balance for validation. Indian FY often defaults from 1 April through your “as of” date. Opening balances + posted vouchers must produce equal debit and credit totals. If TB does not balance, find unposted/voided/partial vouchers before trusting P&L or Balance sheet.

Open Trial balance
Accounting → Trial balance. Set as-of date.
India example: As of 31 Mar · FY 2025-26. -
Confirm totals match
Debit total = credit total. Drill odd balances via General ledger.
India example: Totals ₹… both sides. -
Fix then proceed
Only then run Balance sheet / FY closing.
India example: TB clean → close FY.
Tips
A balanced TB can still have wrong classifications — TB is necessary, not sufficient. · Ops P&L can look fine while TB is broken if books were never posted.
